The Sports Officer works closely with staff in liaising with Sports Teams over the administration of BUCS games. They are often active members of a team themselves, although this is far from compulsory. Beyond the ongoing role of encouraging and supporting BUCS teams individual officers often pursue specific personal campaigns, be it promoting exercise and health, organising overseas tours or just general promotional of competitive sports.
Alongside the officer and staff team be responsible for the promotion of all sports both competitively and for leisure.
Encourage the participation of students in sports and physical activity.
Encourage the formation of new sports clubs/teams.
Promote the health and wellbeing benefits of involvement in sports.
Alongside the officer and staff team assist in convening a captains meeting at the beginning of each term and, where appropriate, elsewhere in the year.
Encourage minority and non-traditional involvements in sport.
Liaise with the Student Media officer and team captains in order to publicise results of fixtures played and future events.
Alongside the officer and staff team assist in organising and promoting the Freshers Fair.
As a Representative Officer act in a responsible and appropriate manner which reflects the work of the Students' UnionAct in accordance with and abide by the UCSU Constitution, rules and all Union policies as set out by the Union Council or Executive, and such other procedures or instructions that may be implemented from time to time by Union Council.
Regularly inform and update the membership, Site Committee, Union Council and Executive of current work, projects and achievements in relation to your role.
Attend Union Officer training as and when required
