Sabbatical positions are full time one year positions that work to the same terms and conditions as new members of Union staff. They are paid approx. £15,000 (pay award pending August 2007) and receive 25 days holiday a year (plus bank holidays). All students across all campuses and sites are eligible to stand and vote for the cross-campus Union President position. It is an excellent way to gain hands-on leadership experience, and provides invaluable insight into working in a membership organisation. Previous Presidents have gone on to work in Higher Education, recruitment, management and other areas, and employers look extremely favourably on the experience and responsibility of leading a diverse and dynamic organisation. 1:Be the prime representative of the Union throughout the University. 2: Oversee the finance and staffing of the Union, alongside the General Manager, and report to University as required, the audited accounts and finances of the Union. 3:In collaboration with Union officers and staff, ensure the effective promotion of SU activities and services. 4:Oversee the development of the Union across all areas, in conjunction with appropriate officers/staff and in accordance with the Students' Union strategic plan. 5: Have responsibility for the representation of students individually and collectively, both Union and University level. 6: Attend Academic Board, meetings of Board of Directors and other University Committee meetings, as appointed by the Executive Committee, Campus Committee or Students' Council. 7: Alongside the Vice Presidents, ensure that all policies of the Union are up to date and adhered to. 8: Convene all meetings of Union Council and meetings of the Executive, as required. 9: Prepare the Annual Report of the Union. 10: Ensure the priorities of the Union, as decided by the Union Council and the Union Executive, are carried out. 11: Have joint responsibility for co-ordinating attendance of student representatives at Faculty & Departmental course meetings. 12: Liaise with any external organisations such as NUS, NUSSL and be the official spokesperson of the Union to the media. 13: Subject to the role of the Returning Officer, oversee the promotion of Students' Union elections. 14: In the absence of a Vice President, oversee the running and development of the respective site, delegating responsibility as appropriate. 15: Lead the Union's delegation to NUS Regional and Annual conferences, and prepare a written report for the following Union Council. 16: Oversee the production of the Students' Union handbook. 17: Undertake all other duties commensurate with the post as may be reasonably required by the Union Council and Union Committee.Sabbatical Positions - President
