The Clubs & Societies Officer assists student run groups in setting up, maintaining and funding their activities. Such groups are defined as “non-BUSA affiliated sports and all other Students’ Union clubs and societies” which in basic terms means all non-sporting groups (with the exception of the Christian Union) and a small number of sport groups that are not entered into the British University Sports Association (BUSA) competitive leagues.
As well as advising new societies on how to set up taking advantage of the support available to them as Students’ Union affiliated groups, the Clubs & Societies Officer also ensures that all such groups abide by core Students’ Union policies such as the Equality & Diversity policy.
The Officer also heads up the Clubs and Societies Development Team, which consists of the president/chairs of all SU affiliated groups and meets twice termly to discuss issues and support the ongoing development of such groups amongst the student membership.
Work alongside the Officer and staff team to actively promote the retention and creation of student groups, clubs and societies.
Assist students throughout the process of forming student groups, clubs and societies in accordance with the UCSU constitution, rules and policy.
Alongside the Sports Officer and relevant members of staff assist on organising and promoting the Freshers Fair.
Become a member of the Clubs and Societies Allocation of Grants panel.
Publicise, convene and administrate the Clubs & Societies Development Team.
Be the chair of the Clubs & Societies Development Team, and bring forward recommendations from CSDT to the Site Committee/Students Council/Executive/President as required.
As a Representative Officer act in a responsible and appropriate manner which reflects the work of the Students' Union
Act in accordance with and abide by the UCSU Constitution, rules and all Union policies as set out by the Union Council or Executive, and such other procedures or instructions that may be implemented from time to time by Union Council.
Regularly inform and update the membership, Site Committee, Union Council and Executive of current work, projects and achievements in relation to your role.
Attend Union Officer training as and when required.
