The Equality and Diversity Officer supports and champions the equality of all students at the campus, and as such can have a wide ranging remit. As well as ensuring that all Students’ Union activities and materials comply with the Equality & Diversity Policy, they can be asked to support individual students or even groups of students who have encountered equality obstacles in their time at University. They often run awareness campaigns in partnership with the campus Vice President and Welfare Officer.
Ensure students are treated equally regardless of their ability, race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, religion, socio-economic status or nationality.
Ensure that the views and opinions of students who face discrimination are reflected throughout the work of the Union.
Arrange, publicise, administrate and maintain the Equality and Diversity Forum at least twice a term.
Be the chair of the Equality and Diversity Forum.
Bring forward recommendations from the Equality and Diversity Forum to the Site Committee/Students Council/Executive/President as required.
Raise awareness of discrimination where appropriate.
In conjunction with the officer and staff team promote the positive involvement of minority groups in all Union activities.
Establish and maintain contact with groups and organisations which work on issues relating to minority groups.
Ensure relevant and up to date information is available.
In conjunction with the relevant members of the officer and staff team identify and eradicate, where possible, material produced by the Union or individual students, which discriminates against student because of their ability, race, ethnicity, sexuality, gender, religion, socio-economic status or nationality.
As a Representative Officer act in a responsible and appropriate manner which reflects the work of the Students' Union
Act in accordance with and abide by the UCSU Constitution, rules and all Union policies as set out by the Union Council or Executive, and such other procedures or instructions that may be implemented from time to time by Union Council.
Regularly inform and update the membership, Site Committee, Union Council and Executive of current work, projects and achievements in relation to your role.
Attend Union Officer training as and when required
