Sabbatical Positions - Vice President

Sabbatical positions are full time one year positions that work to the same terms and conditions as new members of Union staff. They are paid approx £15,000 and receive 25 days holiday a year (plus bank holidays).  Only students from the relevant campus can stand and vote for the Vice President for that campus, and Vice Presidents are returned for the Ambleside, Carlisle City, Lancaster and Penrith Campuses.

Vice Presidents act as the leader for all site-specific Student Union decisions and provides support and guidance for the Campus Committee at their campus. Each Vice President is given leeway to specialise in an area of interest, such as entertainments, media, academic support etc. This full time sabbatical position provides excellent first hand managerial experience, working closely not only with the Campus Committee but also with students and staff across the board.

The full details of the role and responsibilities of the Vice President position are as follows:

1: Have overall responsibility for overseeing campus committee duties, and ensuring the effective operation and development with Union staff, of all student activities at the relevant site.

2: Be a member of the Union Executive and relevant Campus Committee(s)

5: Be a member of Academic Board and other College committees as appointed by the Union Executive, Campus Committee or Union Council.

6: Liaise with Student Development and Advisory Service, University Management, and University and Union staff, where necessary.

7: In collaboration with the Union officers and staff, aid in the promotion of SU activities/services.

8: Ensure up to date, relevant welfare, education & health literature is available to all student members through the Union, updating publications and pooling resources where necessary.

9: Have responsibility for academic affairs, and have overall responsibility for representing students in disciplinary, academic appeals and student review cases, delegating where appropriate.

10: Assist the Welfare team in the compilation of the campaigns timetable  relating to issues of education, health and welfare.

11: Alongside the President, ensure that all policies of the Union are up to date and adhered to.

12: Attend any relevant training/briefing events relevant to that site and the training needs of the officer, including education, welfare, sports and Entz   training.

13: Liaise with department heads and other Union Vice Presidents, to develop and maintain a system for the election of course representatives.

14: Have overall responsibility for the training of course representatives in liaison with NUS, and maintain contact with course representatives through the appropriate forums.

15: Have joint responsibility for co-ordinating attendance of student representatives at Faculty & Departmental Course meetings.

16: Have overall responsibility for liaising with the University for the purpose of monitoring and reviewing the students' charter, academic appeals, academic complaints, equal opportunity and disciplinary procedures, delegating where necessary.
