► The Community Campaign

UCSU CommUNIty Campaign
The Community campaign will take place at all University of Cumbria Sites and
Campuses and has three key aims:
To enhance a healthy sense of Community
The campaign aims to enhance a healthy sense of Community amongst student residents, local residents and local businesses. The Students’ Union plans to run a leaflet/postcard campaign in student resident areas to encourage students and residents to introduce themselves to each other.
To enhance student awareness of Recycling/Environmental issues
Sabbatical Officers and staff will work in conjunction with Environmental Officers to develop a plan that can introduce students to the environmental issues that may arise on Campus or as they move out of Halls of Residence and into the local Community. This may involve raising student awareness about recycling and helping to avoid the possible disturbance created by rubbish (especially when students are moving in and out of houses at the end of term) or helping new students in halls to understand how the University recycle and deal with refuse.
To develop student awareness about noise disturbance
The Students’ Union has previously ran a SSHH (silent students happy homes) campaign that aimed to reduce the amount of noise disturbance caused by students on their way out or on their way home. As part of the Community Campaign a new look SSHH style campaign will aim to encourage students to be more considerate neighbours and will be incorporated into the existing ‘Touch’ Campaign.
As part of the Community Campaign, the Students’ Union will also explore the idea of a Community Rep Scheme. Similar schemes have had mixed success at other universities and unions and may or may not be of benefit got our students and local communities. There may also be further opportunity to explore relevant community volunteering opportunities.
