Aims of the Module
 
This module aims to:
 
·         encourage students to recognise and articulate the wide range of skills that can be achieved through the volunteering experience
·         stimulate student achievement in undertaking volunteering activities
·         provide a structured opportunity for students to critically evaluate the organisations and contexts within which volunteering activities are conducted
·         actively promote the University in the wider community
·         support students in the development of relevant networks and contacts
 
2. Intended Learning Outcomes
 
1.       Ability to evaluate and plan potential volunteering opportunities, with staff support
2.       Ability to analyse own contribution to the volunteering context
3.       Development of a reflective log which is analytical and critical
4.       Effective supported liaison with key personnel in host organisations or community contexts
 
3. Indicative Module Content
 
§         Predominantly self-directed with full tutorial support
§         Research, identification and completion of volunteering activity within an appropriate organisation or community context and with support and agreement of tutor
§         Review and evaluation of the host
§         organisation or community
§         Tutorial support in relation to raising awareness of the broader skills being developed
§         Self-appraisal of personal development throughout the volunteering experience
§         Evaluation of contribution to host organisation or community
