Trustee Board

Under the Charity Commission Act 2009 through which we attain our status as an independent charity the Trustee Board is the highest authority within the Union, our sovereign body. In law the Trustee Board is responsible for the long term financial stability of the Students’ Union, our reputation and ongoing stability and also for ensuring we are always acting within the law. Trustee Board can effectively veto any action put forward by any other committee if it would be damaging to the ongoing operation or good name of the Students’ Union.

As the highest authority the Trustee Board is student lead by the Representation Sabbatical, and there is a total of six students out of nine members to ensure that the focus remains on student needs. Student membership of this group is balanced by external trustees, who are selected to bring specific skills, knowledge and expertise to the group. Trustees are liable in law for any long term financial decisions, and must weigh their deliberations carefully.

As the Trustee Board meets about twice a term the Union Executive exists as a sub-committee of it to oversee the day to day running of the Union.
