International Students Representative

Unpaid Part Time Executive Representative Positions

The Executive is a sub-committee of the Trustee Board, and its main core business is broadly overseeing the day to day activities, management and business of the Students’ Union. Some of the output is routed back through the elected official structures and some is tasked as priority actions for the Union Staff team and is delegated to the Staff Management Team through the General Manager. The Executive sits under the authority of the Trustee Board.

The Union Executive consists of the full time Executive officials (who are the four Sabbatical Officers and the three Campus Representatives) and a broader base of part-time Executive roles who sit to represent the specific needs and opinions of particular constituencies.

Each part-time Executive Representative is expected to self-identify as belonging to the constituency which they are elected to represent, with the exception of Environmental and Ethical Representative.

As well as being members of the Executive all of the part-time representatives are expected to champion the rights and opinions of their constituency in all aspects of the Union, and where appropriate work with other officials and groups and bring items to the attention of the relevant Forum or Assembly.

International Students Representative

This role is elected to ensure that the opinions and needs of International students are heard and acted upon by the Students’ Union. They are central in ensuring that International students have every opportunity to engage in the Union and that services and events appropriate to them are included as a vital part of the Unions’ activities.

It is recognised that International students are an increasing proportion of the membership, and this role should expect to be closely working with all of the Sabbatical Officers and with the local Faculty Representatives in assisting the Union in striving to make the Students’ Union more relevant to this ever-expanding group within our wider membership.

The full role description for the International Students Representative as it is currently defined in the proposed policy documents is as follows:

The International Students Representative shall:

1.    Represent the views of International Students to the Executive Committee and Trustee Board and any Assembly or other Union meeting where appropriate.

1.       Be responsible for increasing the involvement of International Students in Union affairs.

2.       Ensure that International Students views and concerns are reflected within the work of the Students’ Union.

3.       Help organise social, educational events in conjunction with the relevant staff/committee which are of interest to International Students.

4.        Liaise with the relevant Sabbaticals and other Union Officials, and any other relevant organisation.

5.        Provide advice, guidance and support to officers on opportunity, equality and inclusion issues relating to International Students.
