Unpaid Part Time Executive Representative Positions The Executive is a sub-committee of the Trustee Board, and its main core business is broadly overseeing the day to day activities, management and business of the Students’ Union. Some of the output is routed back through the elected official structures and some is tasked as priority actions for the Union Staff team and is delegated to the Staff Management Team through the General Manager. The Executive sits under the authority of the Trustee Board. The Union Executive consists of the full time Executive officials (who are the four Sabbatical Officers and the three Campus Representatives) and a broader base of part-time Executive roles who sit to represent the specific needs and opinions of particular constituencies. Each part-time Executive Representative is expected to self-identify as belonging to the constituency which they are elected to represent, with the exception of Environmental and Ethical Representative. As well as being members of the Executive all of the part-time representatives are expected to champion the rights and opinions of their constituency in all aspects of the Union, and where appropriate work with other officials and groups and bring items to the attention of the relevant Forum or Assembly. Ethical & Environmental Representative The Ethical & Environmental Representative has the prime responsibility for leading the development of the The role will work closely with the Campus Representatives and should expect to attend University meetings representing the wider membership. Developing and maintaining ties with regional and national student organisations that benefit the membership would also assist the development of this role. The full role description for the Ethical & Environmental Representative as it is currently defined in the proposed policy documents is as follows: The Ethical and Environmental Representative shall: 1. Work with the relevant Students’ Union officials/groups coordinate and deliver ethical and environmental and campaigns and events to raise awareness amongst the student body. 2. Where possible assist University Environmental and Sustainability Groups in running environmental projects and schemes on campus, such as paper and cardboard recycling schemes. 3. Ensure that relevant and up to date environmental and ethical information is available to all student members and liaise with the People and Planet Society where appropriate. 4. Drive the Students’ Union to establish and keep ethical values and environmental sustainability at the forefront of all Union developments and activities. 5. Represent the Students’ Union at University and local environment groups and contribute to associated projects where appropriate. 6. Work closely with the Trustee Officers, Campus Representatives, the General Manager and any other relevant officers towards meeting the environmental criteria needed to achieve a Sound Impact Award (the Sound Impact Award is an environmental accreditation scheme with an awards element designed specifically for Students’ Unions). 7. Liaise and work with local environmental groups in order to protect and develop not just the environment of the campuses but that of the local area as well. Ethical & Environmental Representative
