These unique positions exist at each of the main campuses of Carlisle,
This role has a paid component which is clearly defined within an employment contract. This contract will stipulate a set number of office hours to be worked each week in term time (arranged on a termly basis with the Union Community Sabbatical) expressly for meeting the local representative needs of the local student members. These paid hours shall be widely publicised and the Campus Representative shall make themselves available to assist where possible students who come to them during those hours, and if traffic is light they should use the hours to catch up on other Union work.
The unpaid voluntary aspect of the Campus Representative role includes all other responsibilities outside of the core representative hours, which will likely include attending Executive meetings, assisting any student groups set up or run their own meetings, liaising with other local officials like the Faculty Representatives, campaigning or helping run events or activities with Sabbaticals or Union staff. Typically some of the planning and administration of these actions could be undertaken during quiet periods within the paid core representative hours, but post holders must be aware they are expected to be able to make a reasonable commitment as a unpaid volunteer on top of their paid work.
Campus Representatives will be students continuing with their studies, and their part-time paid and voluntary unpaid Union work should not conflict with their ongoing course. Successful post holders will require organisational and inter-personal skills, be able to coordinate the work of others in a peer-to-peer working environment. Planning and campaigning experience would be helpful, but these abilities and a wider knowledge of decision making and consultation will be developed as part of the post holders year of office.
