► You Said We Did - Cumbria Cards

You Said - "We don't think it's fair the amount of money we have to top up on our Cumbria Cards."

Last year, you said that you weren’t happy with the way the Cumbria Card worked; you could only receive your legally entitled VAT discount if you put money onto the card, the minimum ‘credit’ to put on the card was too expensive, and that you were losing unspent money at the end of the year.

We did: So we listened, we researched and we fought for you, and here are the results-

 1)  The University catering literature and website is now amended to make it clear that anyone loading money onto the Cumbria Card (apart from a resident student as part of their residential meal plan) will be entitled to receive a refund of any money left on the card when they leave the University.

2) The minimum sum needed to be put onto the Cumbria card has been reduced from £20 to £10. This may take some time for the web top up, for all cash top ups this should happen immediately. Within reason, the University catering staff should accept cash top ups at tills, even during main service.  The web site has been changed to reflect the minimum payment of £10. Information will be available at tills telling students they can top up at the till.

3)       The discounts are changed so that rather than just students who put money onto their card, now any student can get discount of 15% off hot food which represents the VAT discount you are legally entitled to receive. All you need to do is have your card ‘associated’ with your account and have the card swiped before the sale is complete. This way all students can receive the VAT discount if they register their Cumbria card with the University, without having to put money onto the card. This is effective from the start of September. Discounts remain in place for PRE PAY residential students who will still receive the cheapest prices.
