Monthly Update - August
Here at University of Cumbria Students’ Union we like to keep in touch with our students and let you know about developments within our Union. This month so far we have held two executive meetings which were very productive and raised a variety of issues. From these we have developed action points to be working on over the coming weeks.
We have also had a few good successes already this year, they are as follows:
- The long standing Cumbria Card issue has been successfully resolved (please see email above) which now means that it is possible for the students to receive their legally entitled VAT off hot food, without having to spend money to put on the card.
- Brampton Road (Carlisle) security issues have been addressed and measures are already being taken to improve. (see attached email)
There has also been an issue raised recently about the library at Brampton Road campus in Carlisle, because the University are closing it and relocating the items to other campuses so that they can have more teaching and learning space which is badly needed. There will be some kind of campaign about this soon, I am still in the process of meeting students and chatting to them about it, and doing all the research I can! However I fully intend for there to be some kind of direct action, possibly a rally and whatever it takes to get something done about this. Obviously we will keep you updated.
