Student Parents at the University of Cumbria
The University of Cumbria Students' Union recognises that students with children have a number of individual considerations and concerns that might affect their University experience.
The Students' Union is committed to supporting our Student Parents, as part of this commitment we have recently undertaken a large scale research project about the University experience for student parents at the University of Cumbria.
There are a number of recommendations that have arisen from the Students' Union research so far and these will form the basis of Students' Union campaigning activity to improve the University experience for our student parents.
As part of the research the Students' Union is also keen to collect Student Parent narratives about a 'typical day' in their lives. If you'd like to tell us about your typical day then please get in touch at: suadvice@cumbria.ac.uk
Whilst researching the experiences of student parents is an ongoing process for the Students’ Union, the results of last year’s survey have been collated and are available here:
Join the Student Parent Community Group on Blackboard
A new online Community for Student Parents has been set up on Blackboard that aims to provide a collective online forum for Student Parents to network, discuss any areas of interest or concern, to organise or coordinate any relevant events and to generally be able to meet other Student Parents. It is hoped that the Student Parent Community Group will provide an easy and convenient way to:
* Network with other student parents
* Exchange knowledge, advice and ideas
* Talk to people who understand about the difficulties of juggling being a Parent with being a student
To join the group please follow these 5 simple steps:
1) Log in to Blackboard
2) Click on the ‘Community’ tab on the top bar
3) Click on ‘Browse Organisation Catalogue’
4) Type in: Parent and then click on ‘Go’
5) You should have an option to enrol on the ‘Student Parent Community Group’ - follow the simple steps to enrol and you’ll be added to the group.
It is hoped that as the Community Group evolves that members will shape the future of group activity and discussion and that it will be a useful addition to Blackboard for all student parents at the University of Cumbria regardless of course, Campus/Site of Study, where they are based geographically.
