WHY VOLUNTEER?
Volunteering is a great way to make new friends who share similar interests to you. You can get to know other student volunteers from across the University by working with them on our ‘one day’ or ‘half day’ projects.
Volunteering is also a fantastic way to gain new skills and work experience, which makes you more employable. You get a certificate for all the hours you spend volunteering whilst studying here at the University. This can be included in your CV and impresses potential employers!
It's also an excellent way to make contacts in local community groups and organisations which can help when you start to look for a job. Often you can count on these local contacts for a reference.
By getting involved in the local community you are also giving something back to society and helping to make a difference, perhaps to the lives of others or to the environment.
And do you know what? VOLUNTEERING IS FUN! You have a great time, meet new people, have a laugh, gain new skills & experiences, refreshments are often included and you get certified recognition. It really is a WIN-WIN situation!
To register as a UCSU Volunteer please complete the online registration form here and I’ll send you our Welcome Pack. If you would like some help to find you a suitable opportunity please email me at suvolunteering@cumbria.ac.uk Let me know which campus you're on, give me an idea of the type of volunteering work you'd like to get involved in and I'll give you some opportunities to consider! You get to choose how much time you'd like to give to volunteering and the types of projects you'd like to get involved in.
If you are already working as a volunteer and haven't yet registered with us please complete our online registration form and I’ll send you our welcome pack which includes an ‘hours’ sheet for you to record all the time you spend volunteering.
